Azi sunt milioane de acest fel de creştini care caută interesele lor şi interesele familiei lor mai întâi; nu voia Domnului.
Ei ar fi foarte îngrijoraţi dacă proprietăţile lor ar fi ameninţate de vreun vecin, dar nu sunt îngrijoraţi deloc când proprietatea Domnului este atacată de Satan. Isus ne-a spus că dacă vom căuta împărăţia lui Dumnezeu şi neprihănirea lui mai întâi, tot ce avem nevoie pentru viaţa noastră pământească ne va fi dat pe deasupra. Nu trebuie să le mai căutăm. Dacă ne îngrijim de familia lui Dumnezeu, El se va îngriji de a noastră. Noi trebuie să fim demonstraţii vii pentru lumea necredincioasă arătând că dacă l-am onorat pe Dumnezeu, El ne-a onorat, şi dacă ne-am îngrijit de familia Domnului, El s-a îngrijit de a noastră. Este viaţa ta o mărturie a acestor lucruri?
Putem aplica aceste întrebări din Hagai 1:5,6 pentru noi astfel: Domnul ne provoacă, zicând: “Gândeşte-te cum merg lucrurile în viaţa ta. Ai fost roditor spiritual? Ai semănat mult, dar ai secerat puţin. Ai fost la multe întâlniri, ai citit multe cărţi creştine şi ai ascultat multe casete creştine. Dar este oare casa ta o casă duhovnicească şi plină de pace azi? Ai biruit un lucru simplu ca şi strigatul la soţie sau soţ? Daca nu, deşi ai semănat mult, ai secerat puţin. Porţi îmbrăcăminte, dar nu îţi este cald. Câştigi atâţia bani. Dar sunt găuri în buzunarele tale şi majoritatea se irosesc. Îi ceri lui Dumnezeu să te umple cu Duhul Sfânt, dar eşti găurit şi se scurge toată puterea. Ceva nu este în regulă.”
Cine toarnă apă într-un vas găurit? Mulţi credincioşi care vin la Dumnezeu cerându-i să fie umpluţi cu Duhul Sfânt sunt vase pline de găuri. Dumnezeu ne spune: “Închideţi găurile prima dată.” Dumnezeu este nerăbdător să te umple cu Duhul Sfânt, dar sunt lucruri din viaţa ta care trebuie corectate prima dată. Nici tu nu îţi pui bani în buzunare găurite. Nici Dumnezeu nu va umple cu Duhul Său persoane care au zone şubrede în viaţa lor. Ei nu şi-au cerut iertare oamenilor pe care i-au nedreptăţit, nu au returnat banii pe care i-au luat pe nedrept, etc. Acestea sunt găuri mari. Cu asemenea găuri în viaţa ta nu are rost să te rogi toată noaptea să fi umplut cu Duhul Sfânt. Nimic nu se va întâmpla. Mai bine stai toată noaptea şi repară găurile acestea. Atunci îţi va veni repede răspunsul. Una din temele majoritare a lui Hagai a fost „Uitaţi-vă cu băgare de seamă la căile voastre!” Hagai îi îndeamnă să termine construcţia (Hagai 1:7,8). Fundaţia a fost pusă cu mulţi ani înainte. Dar ei s-au oprit la fundaţie. Isus a vorbit într-o pildă despre un om care a pus doar o fundaţie şi nu a completat clădirea. (Luca 14:28-30). Această pildă este spusă chiar în mijlocul unei părţi care vorbeşte despre a fi ucenicul Lui. Ceea ce Isus vroia să spună este că a evangheliza fără a face ucenici este ca şi punerea unei fundaţii fără a termina construcţia. Este fundaţia necesară? Da, este absolut esenţială. Acesta este primul lucru care trebuie sa se facă când construim o casă. Este evanghelizarea necesară? Desigur. Şi aceasta este prima lucrare care trebuie făcută. Dar dacă numai evanghelizezi şi nu faci ucenici, acesta a fost un efort irosit – la fel de inutil ca o clădire fără fundaţie. Evrei 6:1-3 ne avertizează să nu ne înşelăm de asemenea gândire: “De aceea, să lăsăm adevărurile începătoare ale lui Hristos, şi să mergem spre cele desăvârşite, fără să mai punem din nou temelia pocăinţei de faptele moarte, şi a credinţei în Dumnezeu, învăţătura despre botezuri, despre punerea mânilor, despre învierea morţilor şi despre judecata veşnică.” Aceasta e doar fundaţia. Scriitorul ne spune că trebuie să mergem spre desăvârşire – aceasta este de fapt construirea casei. După ce s-au întors oamenii la Cristos prin evanghelizare, pe acei convertiţi trebuie să îi facem discipoli ai lui Isus care îl urmează pe El şi merg spre desăvârşire.
Aşadar, vedem că mesajul lui Hagai nu este despre a pune fundaţia. Este despre desăvârşire – completarea casei, Trupul lui Cristos. Care este diferenţa dintre o congregaţie şi casa lui Dumnezeu? Dacă iei 50.000 de pietre din o carieră şi le aduci la locul unde se construieşte clădirea, aceasta este evanghelizare. Aceste pietre simbolizează oamenii care sunt născuţi din nou. Dar încă nu sunt o clădire. Sunt doar o adunătură de pietre. Aşa sunt majoritatea congregaţiilor evanghelice de azi. Aceste pietre trebuie acum zidite, puse una lângă alta, pentru a arăta Trupul lui Cristos. Aceasta este partea grea – să îi construieşti împreună în casa lui Dumnezeu. Multe biserici de azi sunt doar congregaţii unde un om (păstorul), ca şi un supraveghetor, se asigură că nimeni nu îi fură “pietrele” . Când una din “pietrele” lui decide să meargă la o altă biserică unde poate primi mai mult ajutor spiritual, supraveghetorul se va plânge că ceilalţi îi fură “pietrele lui”! Dar dacă ar fi construit piatra aceea într-o clădire, nimeni nu ar fi putut să o fure. Dar deci zideşti Trupul lui Cristos, nu trebuie să te îngrijorezi că alţii îţi vor fura membrii. Când pietrele sunt zidite împreună şi cimentate, cu alte pietre deasupra lor, dedesuptul lor, la stânga şi la dreapta lor, cine ar putea să le fure?
Observaţi mustrarea puternică pe care Domnul o dă în Hagai 1:9-11. Este o mare nevoie în bisericile noastre de predicatori care ştiu să vorbească un cuvând de mustrare în dragoste. Este belşug de predici în zilele noastre, dar foarte puţină mustrare şi corectare. Când Dumnezeu permite înfrângeri sau eşecuri constante în viaţa ta, trebuie să te opreşti şi să asculţi ceea ce El vrea să îţi spună. Întreabă-te “De ce lipseşte roada Duhului din viaţa mea? De ce este viaţa de familie în neregulă? De ce nu este ploaie din cer? De ce este secetă în viaţa mea? (Hagai 1:9-11). Poate fi din cauză că eşti mai îngrijorat de lucrurile pământeşti şi de contul din bancă decât de umblarea cu Domnul!
Când Zorobabel şi Iosua, fiul marelui preot au ascultat această proorocie, i-au răspuns imediat mesajului lui Hagai: “Vom începe construirea casei Domnului imediat.” sau simbolic, “Nu ne vom ocupa doar de evanghelizare de acum înainte. Vom face şi ucenici. Vom zidi Trupul lui Cristos şi nu biserica vreunui om.” Biserica trebuie să fie ca şi un trup sănătos – nu o grămadă de mădulare ale trupului ca şi în laboratoarele de anatomie – unde au multe mâini, picioare, ochi şi urechi de jur împrejur, dar niciunul nu sunt legate unul de altul. De aceea nu pot funcţiona împreună. Multe biserici de azi sunt aşa.
“Hagai, trimisul Domnului, a zis poporului, după porunca Domnului: „Eu Sunt cu voi, zice Domnul.” ” (1:13).
Hagai a fost în primul rând mesagerul Domnului, şi apoi a dat poporului mesajul Domnului. Poţi să asculţi un mesaj cu ungere pe o casetă sau cd şi să-l repeţi – şi acesta poate fi mesajul Domnului. Dar Hagai a fost întâi mesagerul Domnului. Pentru a deveni mesagerul Domnului trebuie să-i permiţi lui Dumnezeu să facă o lucrare de zdrobire în tine prima dată, aşa cum a făcut cu Osea. Hagai nu ne spune cum Domnul l-a zdrobit în zilele din tinereţea lui şi l-a frânt, sau prin ce încercări adânci a trebuit să treacă. Mulţi slujitori ai Domnului nu ne vor spune niciodată prin tot ceea ce au trecut. Dar fiecare slujitor al lui Dumnezeu pe care Dumnezeu l-a folosit vreodată are o istorie privată cu Dumnezeu, unde a fost zdrobit, frânt, umilit, dus prin pierderea de bani şi reputaţie, etc. Doar aşa ajunge cineva un mesager al lui Dumnezeu. Este o diferenţă între mesagerul Domnului şi a da mesajul Domnului şi altcineva dând acelaşi mesaj. În primul caz va fi o ungere din partea Domnului care va lipsi în al doilea caz – pentru că ungerea vine în primul rând asupra mesagerului şi nu a mesajului. Duhul Sfânt nu se coboară asupra cărţilor şi casetelor. El vine peste oameni. Ştiu că sunt predicatori ignoranţi care îşi pun mâinile peste cărţi şi casete şi îi cer Domnului să le ungă. Dar nu se întâmplă ceea ce ei cer. Pe oameni îi unge Domnul, nu cărţi şi casete.
Duhul i-a mişcat pe aceşti oameni prin proorocia lui Hagai să acţioneze. “Domnul a trezit duhul lui Zorobabel, fiul lui Şealtiel, dregătorul lui Iuda, şi duhul lui Iosua, fiul lui Ioţadac, marele preot, şi duhul întregii rămăşiţe a poporului. Aşa că ei au venit…, şi s-au pus pe lucru în Casa Domnului oştirilor, Dumnezeul lor, în ziua a douăzeci şi patra a lunii a şasea, în anul al doilea al împăratului Dariu.” (1:14,15). Aceasta a dovedit că era o ungere asupra mesajului.
Acelora care predică Cuvântul le-aş spune: “Nu fiţi satisfăcuţi până când predicatul vostru mişcă oamenii spre a acţiona.” Nu fiţi satisfăcuţi cu strângerea de mână şi cu oameni zicând că a fost un mesaj bun. Dacă mesajul tău nu i-a mişcat pe oameni să se întoarcă de la păcatele lor şi să devină ucenici ai lui Isus, trebuie să cauţi pe Dumnezeu pentru o mai mare ungere a Duhului Său. Vedem aici că în 23 de zile s-au întâmplat lucruri ce nu s-au întâmplat în 16 ani(1:15). Aceasta este diferenţa pe care a făcut-o un profet. Predicatorii profesionişti care au predicat între iudei timp de 16 ani nu au făcut nimic. Dar un profet i-a zguduit pe toţi şi lucrurile au început să se schimbe. Fii un om ca Hagai – fii mesagerul lui Dumnezeu.

Give Priority To The Work Of The Lord

The first message from God to Haggai was a call to rebuild the temple (Haggai 1:1-1). We see here the self-centredness of God’s people. They kept on saying, “The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house” (1:2). The Persian king had only ordered that the city of Jerusalem was not to be rebuilt (Ezra.4:21). He never forbade the building of the temple. But the Jews in Jerusalem used his words to justify their selfishness and laziness and said, “The circumstances are not right as yet to build the temple. So we must wait.” The Lord rebuked them saying, “You feel the time is right to build your own luxurious houses, while My house remains in ruins” (Haggai 1:3).
There are millions of Christians like that today who seek their own interests and their family’s interests first – and not the Lord’s.
They would be gravely concerned if their own property was encroached upon by a neighbour, but they are not one bit concerned when the
Lord’s property is encroached upon by Satan? Jesus told us that if
we sought the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, everything necessary for our life on earth would be added to us. We won’t have to go seeking for them. If we take care of God’s family, He will take care of ours. We must be living demonstrations to an unbelieving world that because we honoured God, He has honoured us, that because we took care of God’s family He took care of ours. Is your life a testimony to these?
We can apply the questions in Haggai 1:5,6 to ourselves like this: The Lord challenges us saying, “Consider how things have been going in your life. Has there been spiritual fruitfulness? You have planted much, but have harvested little. You have gone to many meetings, read many Christian books and listened to many Christian tapes. But is your home a godly home and a home of peace today? Have you overcome even a simple thing like shouting at your wife/husband? If not, then although you have sown much, you have harvested little. You wear clothing, but you are still not warm. You earn so much money. But there are holes in your pocket and so most of it is wasted. You ask God to fill you with
the Spirit. But you leak, and so all the power goes out. Something is wrong.”
Who will pour water into a vessel that has holes in it? Many believers who come to God asking to be filled with the Holy Spirit, are vessels full of holes. God says, “Close up the holes first.” God is eager to fill you with His Holy Spirit. But there are things in your life that need to be set right first. You won’t put money into a pocket that has holes in it. Neither will God fill with His Spirit those who have leaky areas in their life. They have not apologised to somebody they wronged, they have not returned money they took wrongfully, etc., These are major holes. With such gaping holes in your life, it is no use praying all night to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Nothing will happen. Instead spend all night fixing those holes. Then the answer will come quickly. One of Haggai’s major themes
is: “Consider your ways”.
Haggai urges them to complete the building (Haggai 1:7,8.) The foundation had been laid many years earlier. But they stopped there.
Jesus spoke a parable about a man who laid only a foundation and then did not complete the building (Lk.14:28-30). That parable comes right in the middle of a section on being His disciple. What Jesus was implying was that evangelism without disciple-making was like laying a foundation and not completing the building. Is a foundation necessary?
Yes, absolutely essential. That is the first work to be done when building a house. Is evangelism necessary? Certainly. That too is the first work to be done. But if you only evangelise and don’t make disciples, that is wasted effort – as useless as a foundation without a building. Hebrews 6:1-3 warns us of such foolishness: “Let us not lay again the foundation of repentance, faith, water-baptism, baptism in the Holy Spirit, and teaching about resurrection and the final judgment.”
All of that is just the foundation. The writer says that we must then press on to perfection – that is building the house. After we have converted people to Christ through evangelism, we must make those converts, disciples of Jesus who follow Him and press on to perfection.
So Haggai’s message is not about laying the foundation. It is about perfection – completing the building, the Body of Christ. What is the difference between a congregation and the house of God? If you cut out 50,000 stones from a quarry and bring them to the building site, that is evangelism. These stones symbolize people who are born again. But they are not a building as yet. They are just a pile of stones. That is what most evangelical congregations today are. These stones must now be built up, being placed next to each other, if they are to be an expression of Christ’s Body. That is the difficult part – to build them together into the house of God. Many churches today are mere congregations, where one man (the pastor), like a watchman, has to ensure that no-one steals his “stones”. When one of his “stones” decides one day to join another church where he can receive more spiritual help, the watchman will complain that others are stealing “his stones”! But if he had built that stone into a building, it would have been impossible for anyone to steal it. If you build the Body of Christ, you won’t have to worry about others stealing your members.
When stones are built together and cemented, with stones on top of them, under them, and to their left and right, who can steal them?
Notice the strong rebuke the Lord gives in Haggai 1:9-11. There is a great need in our churches for preachers who know how to speak a word of rebuke in love. There is plenty of preaching nowadays, but very little rebuke and correction. When God allows defeat or constant failure in your life, you need to stop and listen to what He is trying to tell you. Ask yourself, “Why is the fruit of the Spirit missing in my life? Why is my family-life in a mess? Why is there no rain from heaven? Why is there a dryness in my life?” (Haggai 1:9-11). It may be because you are more concerned about earthly matters and your bank account than about your walk with the Lord!
When Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest heard this prophecy, they responded to Haggai’s message immediately and said, “We will start building God’s house straightaway.” Or symbolically, “We will not engage in mere evangelism henceforth. We will make disciples as well.
We will build Christ’s Body and not a one-man church.” The church is to be like a functioning body – and not a pile of body parts, as found in anatomy laboratories – where they have many hands, legs, eyes and ears lying around, but none of them connected with each other by life.
And so they cannot function together. Many churches today are exactly like that.
“Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave the people the Lord’s message”(1:13).
Haggai was first the Lord’s messenger, and then he gave people the Lord’s message. You can listen to an anointed message on a tape and repeat that – and that may be the Lord’s message. But Haggai was first the Lord’s messenger. To become the Lord’s messenger, you have to allow God to do a work of crushing in you first, as He did with Hosea. Haggai doesn’t tell us how God crushed him in his younger days and broke him or what deep trials he had to go through. Many servants of God will never tell us all that they went through. But every servant of God whom God has ever used has had a private history of God’s dealings with him, where he was broken, crushed, humbled and taken through loss of money and reputation etc., Only thus does one become the Lord’s messenger. There is a difference between the Lord’s messenger giving the Lord’s message and someone else giving the same message. There will be an anointing of God in the first case which will be absent in the second – because the anointing comes on the messenger primarily, not on the message. The Holy Spirit does not come upon books and tapes. He comes upon people. I know that there are ignorant preachers who lay hands on books and tapes and ask the Lord to anoint them. But what they pray for does not happen. It is people whom God anoints, not books and tapes.
The Spirit stirred these men through Haggai’s prophecy to action. “The Lord sparked the enthusiasm of Zerubbabel Jeshua and the whole remnant of God’s people and they came and began the work on the house of the Lord” (1:14,15). That proved that there was an anointing on the message.
To those who preach the Word, I would say, “Don’t be satisfied until your preaching stirs people to act.” Don’t be satisfied with their shaking your hands and merely saying it was a good message. If your message has not stirred people to turn from their sins and to become disciples of Jesus, then you need to seek God for a greater anointing of His Spirit.
Here we see that within 23 days things began to happen that had not happened for 16 years (1:15). That is the difference that one prophet made.
The professional preachers among the Jews who preached every Saturday for 16 years did nothing. But one prophet shook everybody up and things began to happen. Be a man like Haggai – be the Lord’s messenger.
